The Legacy is a ferocious thrash-metal debut that helped establish Testament as one of the key bands of the Bay Area scene. Released in 1987, it combines speed, sharp riffing and tighter songcraft with a clear, disciplined attack that set the band apart from many of their peers. Over The Wall became an early signature, while The Haunting and First Strike Is Deadly show the group’s knack for melody without sacrificing aggression. Widely regarded as a classic of late-1980s thrash, the album captured the style at full strength and helped build Testament’s long-running reputation.
