About this album

City Connection is a vibrant late-1970s jazz-fusion statement from Terumasa Hino, blending jazz improvisation with funk, Latin and reggae-inflected rhythms. Issued in 1979, the album reflects Hino’s broad-minded approach to fusion, with melodic themes, electric groove and brisk ensemble playing giving the record its energy and shape. The title track, along with pieces such as Hino’s Reggae and Samba De-La Cruz, points to the album’s stylistic range without losing sight of Hino’s distinctive trumpet voice. It stands as a strong example of the adventurous, cosmopolitan jazz that helped define the period.
