Terje Rypdal – After The Rain (VG+/VG+) – LP, US 1976

After The Rain is an LP by Terje Rypdal from 1976 released on the ECM Records, Polydor label.

About this album

After The Rain is a striking early ECM statement from Terje Rypdal, balancing lyrical melody with open-ended improvisation. Issued in 1976, the album shows the Norwegian guitarist refining the moody, elemental sound that made him one of European jazz’s most distinctive voices. Across pieces such as the title track, Autumn Breeze and Like A Child, Like A Song, Rypdal moves between shimmering atmosphere and sharper angular lines, with the recording’s cool clarity giving every phrase room to breathe. As part of ECM’s influential 1970s catalogue, it helped define a more spacious, reflective approach to jazz guitar.
