Lonerism is the album that pushed Tame Impala from cult acclaim into wider indie recognition. Released in 2012, Kevin Parker’s self-produced second album sharpened the project’s psychedelic rock into something more melodic, more expansive and more emotionally direct. Built around woozy synths, layered guitars and precise hooks, it produced enduring favourites such as Feels Like We Only Go Backwards and Elephant while keeping the record’s exploratory edge intact. Widely praised for its ambition and cohesion, Lonerism helped define 2010s psych-pop and established Parker as one of modern rock’s most distinctive songwriters and studio auteurs.
