    Laughing Stock is Talk Talk’s stark, influential final album and one of the key records in the move from art rock towards post-rock. Issued in 1991, it followed the band’s increasingly exploratory late-period work and pushed even further into improvisation, space and near-silence, with the group’s core writing shaped by Mark Hollis and producer Tim Friese-Greene. Built from loose studio performances and patient editing, the album trades hooks for atmosphere and tension, yet its impact has only grown with time. Often cited as a landmark of experimental rock, it helped redefine what a mainstream band could become at the end of a career.
