T. Rex finds Marc Bolan refining his folk-rock beginnings into a more melodic, electric sound that points directly towards glam rock. Issued in 1970, the album was the first under the shortened T. Rex name and marked a clear move away from the duo’s earlier acoustic approach. With lush arrangements, fantasy imagery and an increasingly confident sense of pop structure, Bolan turns songs like “The Children of Rarn” and “One Inch Rock” into a bridge between psychedelic folk and the swaggering glitter sound that would soon make him a star. It is a crucial transitional record in Bolan’s evolution.
