Sowersby says Double Magic is the most clearly realised vision of his career, sharing, “Usually I work in a fairly exploratory way but this was the strongest vision I’ve ever had for how I wanted an album to sound and feel. During lockdown my time out of the house was spent riding my bike along creeks around Melbourne recording nature sounds and they started not just finding their way into the songs, but also shaping the way I wanted the music to sound. I imagined each song taking place in that kind of environment and started trying to emulate the feeling of being in nature with the instrumentation.”

Written, recorded and mixed by Sowersby, and mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Andrei Eremin (Hiatus Kaiyote, Baker Boy, Sampa the Great), Double Magic is coloured by new sonic textures — including Sowersby’s newly learned saxophone — while lyrically spanning love, loss, a journey into parenthood, social media feeds, the housing market and the Kananook Creek.
