About this album

The Grand Illusion is Styx’s breakthrough album, the 1977 record that brought their prog-pop ambitions into the mainstream. Built around polished harmonies, theatrical arrangements and arena-ready hooks, it produced some of the band’s best-known songs, including Come Sail Away and Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man). The album helped establish Styx as one of the most successful American rock acts of the late 1970s, balancing melodic accessibility with the longer-form, concept-minded side of their sound. Its mix of classic rock drive and progressive detail made it a key release in the band’s catalogue and a touchstone of the era.
