About this album

Stuff is a tight, groove-led debut that helped define the smoother end of 1970s jazz-funk. Issued in 1976, the album brought together a group of elite New York session players and gave their collective chemistry a distinctive, laid-back edge. Built on crisp rhythm work, melodic bass lines and clean, highly disciplined arrangements, it balances instrumental finesse with immediate appeal. The record’s blend of jazz improvisation, funk pulse and polished studio craft made it a key example of crossover fusion, and its enduring reputation rests on how naturally it turns virtuosity into something relaxed and memorable.
