Steppenwolf – Monster (VG/VG+) – LP, US 1969

Monster is an LP by Steppenwolf from 1969 released on the ABC Records, Dunhill label.

About this album

Monster is Steppenwolf at their most direct and confrontational, turning blues rock, hard rock and psychedelic colour into a pointed late-’60s statement. Released in 1969, the album arrived after the band’s breakthrough years and pushed further into political commentary and heavier guitar-driven rock. Its title track and songs such as America and Suicide reflect the turbulence of the era, balancing swagger with unease and social critique. The record helped cement Steppenwolf’s reputation beyond Born to Be Wild, showing a band willing to test the boundaries of radio rock with sharper themes and a harder sound.
