Katy Lied is an LP by Steely Dan from 1980 released on the ABC Records, MCA Records label.
About this album
Katy Lied finds Steely Dan refining their blend of sly lyrics, jazz-leaning harmony and immaculate pop-rock craft into one of their most distinctive early statements. Released in 1975, the album features Donald Fagen and Walter Becker pushing deeper into studio precision while working with producer Gary Katz and, famously, with recording complications that left the band dissatisfied with the finished sound. Even so, songs such as Black Friday, Bad Sneakers and Doctor Wu became key examples of their dry wit and musical sophistication. Widely regarded as an essential Steely Dan album, it helped set the template for their later, more exacting work.
