    Stanley Clarke’s self-titled debut is a landmark of jazz-fusion, where virtuosic bass playing meets the muscle of funk and rock. Released in 1974, it introduced Clarke as a commanding solo voice after his breakthrough work with Return to Forever, and helped push the electric bass to the front of the mix as a lead instrument. Built around sharp rhythmic drive, orchestral touches and standout pieces such as Lopsy Lu and Vulcan Princess, the album shows why Clarke became one of fusion’s most influential figures.
