Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd – Jazz Samba (VG+/VG+) – LP, UK

Jazz Samba is an LP by Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd released on the Verve Records label.

About this album

Jazz Samba is a landmark recording that helped introduce bossa nova to a broad American jazz audience. Stan Getz’s cool, lyrical tenor and Charlie Byrd’s fluid acoustic guitar bring unusual ease and clarity to Antônio Carlos Jobim and Brazilian-inflected material, making the style feel both refined and immediate. Recorded in 1962 and issued on Verve, the album became a key crossover success and helped spark the bossa nova boom of the early 1960s. Its concise, melodic performances, including Desafinado, showed how Latin rhythms and jazz phrasing could meet without losing the character of either tradition.
