    About this album

Club Classics Vol. One is Soul II Soul’s genre-blurring debut, a key statement in late-80s British dance music. Issued in 1989, it fused soul, deep house, reggae, funk and jazz into a fluid, club-rooted sound that felt both streetwise and uplifting. Led by Jazzie B and built around supple grooves, warm basslines and the group’s distinctive vocal blend, the album helped push British Black music into the mainstream. Its biggest songs, including Keep On Movin’ and Back to Life, became era-defining singles and made Soul II Soul one of the most influential crossover acts of the period.
