    About this album

Soft Machine’s Third is a landmark jazz-rock statement that pushed British progressive music towards extended improvisation and abstract structure. Released in 1970, it found the band stretching out across long-form pieces such as ‘Facelift’, ‘Slightly All The Time’ and the side-long ‘Out-Bloody-Rageous’, blending jazz discipline, psychedelic drift and avant-garde risk. The album marked a key turning point in the Canterbury scene, with complex ensemble writing and adventurous soloing replacing conventional rock formats. Widely regarded as one of the group’s defining works, it helped establish Soft Machine as pioneers of progressive jazz fusion.
