Cold Fact is the stark, finely written debut that turned Sixto Rodriguez into a cult figure. Released in 1970, the album blends folk rock, psychedelic colour and socially alert songwriting, balancing gentle melodies with pointed observations about poverty, alienation and disillusionment. Songs such as Sugar Man, Crucify Your Mind and Establishment Blues show Rodriguez’s gift for turning direct, conversational lines into lasting hooks. Although it was overlooked on release, the record later became central to his legend and helped secure his reputation as one of the most distinctive singer-songwriters of the era.
