About this album
New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) is the album that transformed Simple Minds from post-punk challengers into major chart contenders. Issued in 1982, it sharpened the band’s sound into glossy, propulsive synth-pop and art-rock, driven by shimmering keyboards, anthemic choruses and a surer sense of melody. Produced by Peter Walsh with contributions from Steve Hillage, it yielded some of the group’s best-known songs, including Promised You A Miracle, Someone Somewhere in Summertime and Glittering Prize. Widely regarded as a high point in their catalogue, the record helped define early-’80s British pop at its most ambitious and accessible.
