Shadowfax – Shadowdance (VG+/VG+) – LP, US 1983

Shadowdance is an LP by Shadowfax from 1983 released on the Windham Hill Records label.

About this album

Shadowdance is a refined early statement from Shadowfax, blending jazz fusion with global textures, fluid improvisation and carefully shaped melodic ideas. Issued in 1983, the album shows the group developing the distinctive sound that would make them stand out in American instrumental music: bright electric keyboards, nimble rhythms, lyrical woodwinds and a gently exploratory spirit. Pieces such as “New Electric India”, “Watercourse Way” and the title track underline the band’s interest in colour and atmosphere without losing momentum. It is a strong example of how Shadowfax helped broaden the boundaries of fusion in the 1980s, balancing compositional discipline with a free-flowing, adventurous feel.
