Shaboozey's The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales arrives after the multi-platinum breakthrough of “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and his widely noticed appearances on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, but it pushes in a different direction: a full 20-track concept album built around a revenge story. Cherie Lee, the daughter of a murdered sheriff, hunts the Bootcut Boys across a Western landscape shaped by grief, romance and retribution, giving Shaboozey room to treat country storytelling as something cinematic rather than just nostalgic.

What makes the record interesting is how deliberately it expands the blend he sketched on Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. Country, hip-hop and folk all remain in the frame, but here they serve a larger narrative, with songs like “If I Was an Outlaw,” “Burn It Down” and “Born to Die” helping move between saloon-country detail, big-hook crossover instincts and a darker, brooding atmosphere. The guest list also sharpens the album’s scale: Jamie Foxx, Sam Elliott and Teyana Taylor appear in narrative roles, while Gunna, Leon Bridges, Kehlani and Orville Peck widen the musical world without breaking the story’s arc.

For a shop bin full of one-off crossover singles, this is something more sustained. The album presents Shaboozey less as a novelty hitmaker than as an artist testing how far modern Americana can stretch when it borrows equally from outlaw country, rap and screen-ready storytelling.
