Ty Segall – Chrome

Ty Segall's Chrome arrives as a full-band record made in the wake of 2025's Possession, with Segall reuniting Ben Boye, Evan Burrows, Mikal Cronin and Emmett Kelly for a tighter, more collective attack. The setup matters: this is very much a band album rather than a solitary studio construction, and the songs lean into that chemistry with twin-guitar interplay, punchy keyboards and a rhythm section built for impact.

Across nine tracks, Chrome pushes Segall's fuzz-heavy garage and proto-punk instincts into something sharp and immediate without losing detail. The material was recorded at Sonic Ranch in a concentrated six-day session with Cooper Crain, a pace that suits the album's live-wire feel. Massive riffs, thudding drums and distorted guitar lines drive the record, while the lyrics mix personal dream imagery with broader social unease, giving the noise a darker, more allusive edge.

That combination of force and control is what makes Chrome especially appealing in Segall's catalogue. Early cut Black Paint sets the tone, but the album is broader than pure attack, with enough melodic instinct and arrangement sense to keep the songs moving rather than simply bludgeoning. For listeners who like Ty Segall at his most band-focused, this is a direct, hard-hitting set that makes a virtue of speed, volume and shared momentum.
