Sasha & John Digweed – Northern Exposure Redux South (2xLP, 30th Anniversary Edition)

Sasha & John Digweed's Northern Exposure Redux: South returns to one of the defining mix compilations of the 1990s. First released on 27 September 1996, Northern Exposure arrived when DJ culture was still setting its own terms, and its emphasis on atmosphere, flow and long-form tension helped redefine what a mix album could do. Rather than simply stringing together club weapons, Sasha and Digweed shaped a darker, more immersive progressive-house journey from American and European underground records.

This South set is the more floor-focused half of the original concept, pushing steadily from dubby pressure into trance and rave release. The selections underline how wide the duo's map really was, pulling in artists such as Dope on Plastic, Pete Lazonby, Banco de Gaia and Rabbit in the Moon. The closing stretch still tells the story well: Humate & Rabbit in the Moon's East (Opium Den Mix) and a newly recreated 2026 version of Dark And Long (Dark Train) by Darren Emerson show why this mix became such a touchstone for progressive house.

Northern Exposure Redux marks the album's 30th anniversary with restored editions of the original North and South mixes. For vinyl listeners, this South edition also makes the set's physical return meaningful: it comes as a 2xLP with an insert, and includes a download code covering both the mixed North and South journeys as well as the individual unmixed tracks. If you know the title already, this is a chance to hear why it lasted; if you do not, it remains a strong entry point into the deeper, more transportive end of 90s club music.
