Santana – Marathon (VG+/VG) – LP, AU 1979

Marathon is an LP by Santana from 1979 released on the CBS label.

About this album

Marathon is a late-1970s Santana album that keeps the band’s fusion sound focused on compact, radio-ready pop-rock. Released in 1979, it blends rock, Latin rhythms, funk and melody into a more streamlined form than the group’s earlier improvisational work, while still carrying Carlos Santana’s distinctive guitar voice at the centre. The title track, Lightning in the Sky and You Know That I Love You show how the band adapted its rhythmic identity to the era’s polished mainstream rock landscape. As one of Santana’s transitional albums, Marathon reflects a period of commercial recalibration without abandoning the group’s core musical trademarks.
