Valentine is one of Roy Harper’s sharpest and most focused folk-rock statements, balancing biting politics with melodic warmth and lyrical detail. Released in 1974, the album finds Harper in full command of his blend of acoustic intimacy and rock ambition, moving from the social edge of “Male Chauvinist Pig Blues” to the reflective sweep of “Twelve Hours Of Sunset” and the anthemic pull of “Che”.
