    About this album

Top Priority is one of Rory Gallagher’s strongest late-1970s blues-rock statements, driven by lean songs and his unmistakable guitar attack. Released in 1979, the album finds Gallagher tightening his sound without losing the raw edge that made him a cult hero, balancing electric blues grit with hard rock momentum. It includes some of his best-regarded material from the period, notably the relentless title track and the sharp, haunted “Philby”. Across the record, Gallagher’s instinctive feel, emotional phrasing and no-frills playing keep the focus on song and performance, making Top Priority a prime example of his tough, unsentimental style.
