RCA Victor Presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific (An Original Soundtrack Recording) is an LP by Rodgers & Hammerstein from 1958 released on the RCA label.
About this album
South Pacific is one of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most important stage works, combining memorable melodies with a serious wartime story about prejudice and prejudice challenged. Premiering on Broadway in 1949, the musical became a major cultural event and one of the duo’s greatest successes, with songs such as Some Enchanted Evening, Bali Ha’i and Younger Than Springtime helping define the score. Its 1958 soundtrack release carried that legacy into the LP era, preserving a work widely admired for marrying popular entertainment to social commentary. The result is a landmark of American musical theatre whose influence has lasted for decades.
