About this album
The Sound of Music is one of the most enduring film musicals of the 1960s, turning Rodgers and Hammerstein’s stage classic into a worldwide soundtrack landmark. Julie Andrews leads with clarity and warmth, while Christopher Plummer, Irwin Kostal and the full orchestral arrangements help give the score its sweep and emotional lift. Released in 1965, the album helped cement songs such as My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and Edelweiss as part of the popular songbook. Its blend of theatrical melody, family appeal and cinematic polish made it a huge cultural success and a lasting reference point for the Hollywood musical.
