    About this album

Georgia On My Mind is a concise showcase of Ray Charles at his most influential, bringing together the blues-rooted soul and gospel-inflected swing that made him a modern American original. Issued in 1981, this compilation draws on the peak years that produced defining recordings such as Georgia On My Mind, I Got a Woman, What'd I Say and Drown in My Own Tears. Those sides helped Charles bridge rhythm and blues, soul and pop with a sound that was both earthy and elegant. The result is a strong portrait of an artist whose phrasing, piano and emotional authority reshaped post-war popular music.
