About this album
Rich And Poor shows Randy Crawford refining her blend of soul, jazz and contemporary R&B into a polished late-1980s statement. Issued in 1989, the album leans into her supple phrasing and smoky tone, with arrangements that balance smooth-jazz sheen and emotional directness. Crawford was already established as one of modern soul’s most distinctive voices, and this set reinforces why: she can turn romantic material into something intimate and unmistakably personal. The album sits comfortably between radio-friendly sophistication and classic vocal jazz warmth, making it a strong example of her mature style.
