Indian Reservation is the Raiders’ most commercially significant album, anchored by the million-selling No. 1 single of the same name. Issued in 1971, it found the former Paul Revere & the Raiders updating their sound for the early-70s rock market with a set that mixed protest-minded material, contemporary pop and familiar covers. The title track, originally by John D. Loudermilk as “The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian,” became the group’s signature late-era success and helped give the album lasting recognition. Built for radio but shaped by the band’s hard-edged pop instincts, it stands as a key snapshot of their final chart peak.
