Kid A is Radiohead’s boldest reinvention and one of the defining albums of the 2000s. Arriving in 2000 after the massive success of OK Computer, it refused easy repetition and pushed the band towards electronics, abstraction and uneasy atmosphere, with songs like Everything In Its Right Place, Idioteque and How To Disappear Completely widening alternative rock’s boundaries. Working with Nigel Godrich and drawing on ambient, IDM and modernist sound design as much as guitar rock, Radiohead turned alienation into something vivid and immediate. The album topped charts in several countries and is widely regarded as a landmark of experimental mainstream rock.
