Shady Grove is an LP by Quicksilver Messenger Service from 1976 released on the World Record Club label.
About this album
Shady Grove finds Quicksilver Messenger Service broadening their San Francisco sound into a looser, more roots-aware form of psychedelic rock. Released in 1969, the album sits at a turning point for the group, when the band began to temper its acid-rock reputation with country-rock colours, acoustic textures and more concise writing. The title track became the record’s best-known moment, while pieces such as Flute Song and Edward, (The Mad Shirt Grinder) show the band balancing improvisation with songcraft. It is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive late-’60s entries in the Bay Area rock catalogue.
