    About this album

Public Image (First Issue) is a landmark post-punk debut that reinvented John Lydon after the Sex Pistols. Issued in 1978, it fused jagged guitar, restless bass and dub-influenced space into a sound that was colder, freer and more confrontational than much of the era’s new wave. Led by Lydon and shaped by guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble and drummer Jim Walker, the album turned alienation into method on tracks like Public Image and Fodderstompf. Its experimental edge helped define the direction of post-punk and made Public Image Ltd one of the most important early acts of the movement.
