Prince – Controversy (VG/G+) – LP, AU 1981

Controversy is an LP by Prince from 1981 released on the Warner Bros. Records label.

About this album

Controversy is one of Prince’s crucial early statements, sharpening his blend of funk, pop and provocation into a leaner, more confrontational album. Released in 1981, it pushed his writing further into sexual candour and political friction, with the title track, Sexuality and Ronnie, Talk to Russia showing how he could turn taboos and headlines into tight, danceable songs. Built around Prince’s restless multi-instrumental approach, the record helped define the sound and attitude that would carry through his imperial 1980s run. It stands as an important bridge between his early cult following and the mainstream impact that followed.
