    The Desaturating Seven finds Primus in vivid concept-album form, turning their surreal humour and technical firepower towards a darker, story-led record. Released in 2017, it was inspired by the children’s book The Rainbow Goblins and follows a narrative arc that gives the band’s off-kilter funk metal and prog rock a more focused dramatic shape. Les Claypool’s elastic bass and the group’s jagged rhythms remain unmistakable, but the album feels especially pointed in its pacing and atmosphere. As a late-career Primus statement, it shows how the band can still make eccentricity feel tightly constructed and fully intentional.
