Screamadelica is the album that turned Primal Scream from cult indie band into one of the defining names of 1990s British music. Issued in 1991, it fused acid house, dub, psychedelic rock and indie songwriting into a vividly new crossover sound, driven by dancefloor rhythm as much as guitar heft. Helped by production and remix work from figures including Andrew Weatherall, the record produced landmark moments such as Loaded, Come Together and Higher Than the Sun. Its impact was immediate and lasting, winning the first Mercury Prize in 1992 and becoming a touchstone for the meeting of rock and club culture.
