This Is The Day...This Is The Hour...This Is This! is Pop Will Eat Itself at their most inventive and confrontational, blending indie rock, breakbeats, synths and cut-and-paste sampling into a fiercely modern late-1980s statement. Released in 1989, the album sharpened the band’s satirical edge while pushing alternative rock towards dancefloor energy and collage-heavy production. Best known for their cheeky, hook-laden attack and songs such as Can U Dig It and Def Con One, Pop Will Eat Itself helped define a strand of British crossover music that linked indie, hip-hop and electronic culture before it became commonplace.
