About this album
An 1 is a sly, high-energy debut that turned Plastic Bertrand into one of French-language punk’s most recognisable faces. Issued in 1977, the album rides a brittle, punky momentum with glam-rock flash and a knowingly cheeky pop sensibility, balancing cartoon exuberance with sharp hooks. Its best-known song, Ça plane pour moi, became an international calling card and helped define the record’s legacy beyond Belgium and France. Built for speed rather than polish, the album captures late-1970s new-wave irreverence in compact, instantly memorable form, making it a cult favourite and a key snapshot of Euro-punk’s first wave.
