Pixies – Bossanova

Pixies' Bossanova arrived in August 1990 as the band's third studio album, released by 4AD in the UK and Elektra in the US. It pushes the Pixies' sound toward surf rock and space rock, with songs that keep circling back to aliens, UFOs, and other off-world imagery. That concept gives the record a distinct place in their catalogue: still unmistakably Pixies, but more streamlined, melodic, and fixated on atmosphere.

What makes Bossanova especially rewarding is the way those ideas translate into the music itself.
