PISS's You Made Me / Skin on Linen is the Vancouver quartet's debut full-length, arriving after the band built a fierce reputation through live shows before signing to Sub Pop. Rather than treating difficult subject matter as abstraction, the album is described as a depiction of a childhood shaped by structural, systemic, and intimate violence, with punk, poetry, noise and sound collage used to make that experience feel immediate and physical.
What makes the record stand out is how deliberately it blurs personal testimony and broader social critique. PISS draw on literature, philosophy, activism, performance art and anarcho-feminist thought, using recurring art-making metaphors to show how experience leaves its mark on the self. The first single, time loop at hot slit, is presented as a fast, danceable noise-punk piece about girlhood in a culture of sexualisation, while i wanted to be a singer points to another side of the album with slow, forceful guitars and a more exposed vocal presence.
Recorded in January 2025 with Colin Stewart at Hive Creative Labs, the album is built for contrast: dense and noisy, but still open enough for spoken samples and more fragile passages to register. That tension suits a band whose line-up of Taylor Zantingh, Tyler Paterson, Gavin Moya and Garreth Roberts works as a true unit, pushing hardcore intensity, poetic writing and collage techniques into something more unsettling and thoughtful than a straightforward punk record.
