About this album

Birdy is a striking soundtrack album that shows Peter Gabriel turning his experimental instincts towards film music with unusual emotional force. Released in 1985 for Alan Parker’s adaptation of Birdy, it refines the ambient, art-rock and electronic language Gabriel was developing in the mid-1980s, while also drawing on material from his wider catalogue and reshaping it into a coherent score. The result is less a conventional soundtrack than a moody, evocative companion piece, built from textures, atmosphere and recurring themes. It stands as one of Gabriel’s most distinctive releases and a strong example of how film work expanded his sonic palette.
