    About this album

    No Code is Pearl Jam’s boldest early reinvention, trading stadium certainty for a looser, more searching sound. Released in 1996, the album pushed beyond the grunge template that made the band famous, mixing hard-edged rock with acoustic textures, garage grit and experimental touches. Built around songs such as Hail, Hail, Who You Are and Off He Goes, it reflects a band deliberately refusing to repeat itself after the huge success of Ten and Vs. The result is a record that divided some listeners at the time but has since been widely reassessed as one of Pearl Jam’s most distinctive and artistically fearless statements.
