"Graceland" from 1986 was the seventh studio album by singer/songwriter PAUL SIMON. in 1984, after a period of depression, SIMON was fascinated by a bootleg cassette with music from a South African township. With Roy Halee, he planned a trip to Johannesburg, where he spent two weeks recording with South African musicians.
The album thus features an eclectic mix of genres, including pop, rock, a capella, zydeco, isicathamiya and mbaqnaga. SIMON composed new songs under the influence of these recordings and collaborated with African and American musicians.
"Graceland" was a commercial success and was to become SIMON's most successful Studio album by SIMON. in 1987, it won the Grammy for "Album Of The Year" and sold over 16 million copies worldwide.
