    McCartney II is one of Paul McCartney’s boldest solo statements, replacing polished post-Beatles pop with home-made experimentation and restless invention. Released in 1980, the album finds McCartney largely working alone and exploring synth-driven ideas, tape effects and lo-fi textures that were well ahead of his time. Coming Up became a major hit, while Temporary Secretary has since gained cult status for its strange, hooked-up electronic pulse. Bridging pop melody and experimental instinct, the record showed McCartney treating the studio as a playground and helped secure his reputation as an artist still willing to take risks after the Beatles.
