Pat Metheny – New Chautauqua (VG+/VG+) – LP, DE 1979

New Chautauqua is an LP by Pat Metheny from 1979 released on the ECM Records label.

About this album

New Chautauqua is a quietly distinctive Pat Metheny album that broadens jazz fusion into a more pastoral, acoustic-minded language. Issued in 1979, it moves away from the denser electric sound of his early work and instead highlights melodic writing, open atmosphere and a strong sense of place. The title suite, Country Poem and Sueño Con Mexico show Metheny shaping folk, country and Latin colours into something unmistakably personal. As one of his early solo statements, the record helped establish his reputation as a composer with a singular voice beyond straight-ahead jazz or fusion.
