About this album

Soul Kiss is a polished mid-1980s turn from Olivia Newton-John, blending synth-pop sheen with rock and pop instincts in a more contemporary, electronic setting. Issued in 1985, the album reflects her move deeper into the decade’s programmed sound while keeping the melodic ease and approachable vocal style that made her a major international pop star. The title track and songs such as Toughen Up point to a sharper, more self-assured direction, while the record’s glossy production gives the material a distinctly era-specific edge. It stands as a notable snapshot of Newton-John adapting her sound to the mid-’80s mainstream.
