    Straight Outta Compton is the landmark debut that pushed gangsta rap into the mainstream and made N.W.A. one of hip-hop’s most influential groups. Released in 1988, the album turned the realities of Compton into confrontational, unvarnished reportage, with Dr. Dre and DJ Yella’s production giving Ice Cube, Eazy-E and MC Ren a stark, urgent backdrop. The title track and “F**k tha Police” became defining statements of protest and provocation, sparking controversy while expanding what rap could say and who it could speak for. Its cultural impact was immense, shaping West Coast hip-hop and hardening the sound and politics of the genre.
