NOFX's Wolves in Wolves Clothing arrived in 2006 as the band's tenth studio album, written in the thick of George W. Bush's second term and aimed squarely at the political and social tensions of that moment. Rather than smoothing out their edge, NOFX pushed further into aggressive satire here, taking on organised religion, corporate greed and blind patriotism while keeping the fast, hook-heavy charge that made them such a defining skate-punk band.
The record balances that anger with a surprisingly broad musical range. Tracks such as Seeing Double at the Triple Rock and Leaving Jesusland show the band at full speed, with tight harmonies, melodic hardcore punch and Fat Mike's black humour right at the centre. Elsewhere, songs like Doornails give the album a more reflective side, so it never feels like a one-note rant. Production from Bill Stevenson, Jason Livermore and Fat Mike keeps everything lean and direct, with the kind of clarity that lets NOFX's rapid shifts, sharp choruses and sarcastic details land properly.
It also stands as one of the band's more widely recognised mid-period releases: it originally reached number 46 on the Billboard 200 and made the Top 40 in more than eight countries. This 20th anniversary return brings that 2006 album back on yellow vinyl, a fitting way to revisit one of NOFX's most pointed and fan-favourite records.
