About this album
Nite City is a tough, genre-blending rock album that draws on pop rock, funk and prog without losing its punch. Released in 1977, the band’s self-titled debut came from a post-Doors Los Angeles scene and is closely associated with Ray Manzarek, whose keyboard work gives the record much of its character. The album balances muscular riffs, rhythmic funk touches and late-’70s polish, with songs such as Summer Eyes and Midnight Queen showing the group’s knack for hook-driven, swaggering rock. Nite City remains a noteworthy snapshot of Manzarek’s work beyond The Doors and of a period when classic rock, funk and progressive ideas overlapped freely.
