New Order – Substance (VG+/VG+) – 2xLP, AU 1987

Substance is an LP by New Order from 1987 released on the Factory Records Australasia label.

About this album

Substance is the definitive New Order compilation, distilling the band’s rise from post-punk innovators to electronic chart pioneers. Released in 1987, it gathers key singles and extended versions from the Factory years, including “Blue Monday”, “Bizarre Love Triangle” and “True Faith”, songs that helped define the sound of 1980s alternative dance music. The album captures the group’s gift for fusing Hook’s melodic bass, Bernard Sumner’s detached vocals and machine-driven rhythms into something both melancholy and euphoric. Widely regarded as an essential entry point, it remains one of the clearest statements of New Order’s lasting influence on pop and club culture.
