About this album
Nature Boy gathers Nat King Cole’s elegant interpretations of jazz and pop standards, highlighting the effortless phrasing and velvet tone that made him one of the 20th century’s most beloved singers. Issued in 1973 as a compilation, it draws on material associated with his post-war rise, when he moved from jazz pianist and bandleader to international vocal star. Across songs such as the title cut, ‘Tenderly’ and ‘Stardust’, Cole brings warmth, poise and emotional restraint to familiar material, turning standards into intimate performances. His blend of swing, easy listening and big-band polish helped define a smoother, more urbane style of popular singing.
